Cedar River Academy - Programs

Grade Two

Our goals for all of our students is to empower them to learn. We use individualized instruction for reading and math. Our curriculum in all subjects is designed to meet or exceed the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements.

As our students learn to read and perform basic math operations, they are able to apply those skills to learn about the world in which they live. This year our second grade students will learn to work as a team. They will explore the world of tall tales, learn about pioneers, collect data as they learn about life cycles at a local pond, and experiment with simple machines. As they take part in activities they will use their reading skills to research topics related to their themes, their writing skills to communicate what they have learned, and collect and analyze data using their math skills.

Because our longer school year offers increased instructional opportunities, we are able to maintain a more relaxed atmosphere, which is more conducive to learning. We are able to provide instruction that is tailored to each child's needs, and to encourage students to make rapid and continuous progress in every area.
